SSG Michelle Rachael Langhorst (U.S. Army Military Police)

Staff Sergeant Michelle Langhorst was a warrior, protector, and servant of others. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was a gifted athlete who chose a life of service over personal pursuit, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2004 as a Military Police Soldier.
She deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 212th Military Police Company in Afghanistan, operating in high-risk combat environments. Known for her quiet strength and compassion, Michelle went beyond the wire to serve orphaned children—bringing food, water, and hope—never seeking recognition.
Her leadership and excellence earned her selection to a prestigious NATO protective services assignment in Brussels, Belgium. She served nine years, earned multiple awards, and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged due to injury.
Like many warriors, Michelle carried unseen wounds.
On March 30, 2015, she died by suicide at just 31 years old.
Her life is a powerful reminder that the war doesn’t always end when the uniform comes off. At Healing the Hero, we honor Michelle by fighting for those still in the battle—ensuring no warrior suffers in silence.
