Officer Howie Liebengood served with quiet strength.

For 15 years, he stood watch as a member of the United States Capitol Police, dedicating the majority of his career to the Senate Division. He was known as a professional, a steady presence, and a man committed to duty—someone others could rely on when it mattered most.

On January 6, 2021, he answered the call like he always had for the Capital Riot.

Two days later, Officer Liebengood died by suicide.

And once again, we are reminded of a truth that cannot be ignored—
some of the deepest wounds carried by our protectors are the ones no one can see.

At Healing the Hero, we honor Officer Liebengood not only for his service… but for his humanity.

Behind the badge was a man who bore the weight of responsibility, stress, and experiences that don’t simply fade when the shift ends. Like so many in law enforcement, he carried it forward—quietly, faithfully, and often alone.

His loss is not just a moment in time.
