Corporal Jonathan James Brunell, 23, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2015 by suicide, in Beulaville, North Carolina.

Born into a family of service on March 11, 1992, near Fort Drum in Watertown, New York, Jonathan’s life was shaped early by the call to something greater. His childhood carried him across the world—from the United States to Gelnhausen, Germany—and eventually to Central Massachusetts, where he would grow into the man so many came to respect and love.

Jonathan graduated from Quabbin Regional High School in 2010, and like so many warriors before him, he chose a path few are willing to walk. In 2011, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. By 2013, he was called to active duty and deployed to Afghanistan, serving his country with honor before returning home in 2014. He later settled near Camp Lejeune, North Carolina—still close to the brotherhood he carried with him.

Jonathan was a Marine in every sense of the word—loyal, resilient, and committed to those beside him. He was also a man building a future, engaged to the love of his life, Lindsey Osborne, and preparing for the next chapter of his journey.

Behind the uniform was a son, a brother, a grandson, and a friend.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth L. Wilson, and her partner, David M. Mortimer; his father, Michael P. Brunell, a retired servicemember; his half-brother, Travis Michael Brunell; his fiancée, Lindsey Osborne; his grandparents George and Joanne Wilson, Francis Mary Brunell, and Roy Brunell and his wife Dolores; along with a large and loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will carry his memory forward.

Jonathan also leaves behind his loyal companions, his dogs Liberty and Bailey—names that reflect the very values he lived for.

Corporal Brunell’s life was one of service, sacrifice, and love. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made—as a Marine, as a brother, as a man—will not fade.

He stood for something greater. He will never be forgotten.

Corporal Brunell is the Nephew of Gina Pusateri an Executive Board Member for Healing the Hero, Gina is also married to a Combat Marine, currently serving as a Police Sergeqnt in Massachusetts. Our mission is personal.
