Post 28, in Grand Haven, Michigan Leading the Way Nationally
The American Legion Post 28 in Grand Haven, Michigan hosted the first of its kind training with Healing the Hero, nonprofit. Healing the Hero with Dan Jarvis trained 6 veterans to administer the Peer Rescue Protocol or the Jesus Protocol to heal traumatic stress otherwise known as PTSD, anxiety, grief, anger, survivor guilt and more. They will now have boots on the ground to work with veterans and their spouses and children in effect jumping way past awareness of the suicide problem but straight to solutions.
Healing the Hero
Healing the Hero is a faith based Christian nonprofit that incorporated out of the state of Florida with a National reach April 15, 2024. This is the natural progression of where healing should go, into faith communities. Dan Jarvis founded 22ZERO a secular nonprofit using the Trauma Resiliency Protocol (TRP) and the Emotions Management Process (EMP). Dan developed these processes to heal the injury of PTSD with veterans, first responders and their families. www.TacticalResiliencyUSA.com
Since beginning Healing the Hero which can be found at https://healingthehero.org they have already healed around 42 heroes. Dan is also conducting numerous trainings in the new methods of the Peer Rescue Protocol and the Jesus Protocol. He has already trained 24 people in a very short period and is planning one training per month until the pace picks up primarily in Florida.
The Grand Haven Team
Maze Dan’s service dog was welcomed with open arms by Post 28 in Grand Haven. The training was spearheaded by Chris Jarvis, a past commander from 2016-2017. The make-up of the veterans consisted of Chris Jarvis, a Marine and retired Firefighter Paramedic and Fire Marshal that served in the Vietnam era, Larry Lambert an Air Force Veteran that served in Vietnam, Ron Streng, a Navy veteran that served in Vietnam, Adam Shumaker a Navy Veteran that served in Afghanistan, and Steve Barnes, an Army veteran that served in Panama.
American Legion Partnerships
The American Legion has been at the forefront of veteran causes and obtaining veterans the benefits they deserve. As the largest veteran organization on earth they lead the way with our legislatures as the adjutant has a nation lobbying presence in our congress. If the American Legion wants to get something done, believe me they will get it done. We are all aware of the problem of veteran suicide but very few are aware there are solutions. One of the battles we have experienced over the years is belief. Our culture has been so conditioned to believe medication, therapy and an occasional miracle happens to help our veterans. We struggle with the possibility of a breakthrough. In the six years I have been involved in the world of PTSD, depression and anxiety I have seen many changes. First and foremost our veterans are looking for real solutions. Unfortunately our system offers little. The Department of veterans Affairs has a belief that Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy is the gold seal treatment for PTSD. They have doubled down despite some clinical research they have funded and decided not to publish. Hopefully they will publish their data at some point. This data will show PE as an ineffective treatment method to heal PTSD. With a 60 percent quit rate among veterans, not sure I would tout it as a successful method of treatment. I too speak from experience, I was one of the quitters. I believe with Post 28 in Grand Haven, Michigan leading the tip of the spear we will see a sea change. Forget awareness, we are now in the solutions phase. We must heal our heroes.
