Allegheny County 911 Dispatcher and Training Officer
Bart began his career as an EMT and now serves as a 911 dispatcher and training officer. Through years of working behind the headset, he witnessed the cumulative impact critical calls can have on dispatchers and responders alike. He is actively involved with the Peer Support Team at Allegheny County 911, where he supports fellow telecommunicators and first responders through critical incidents, stress, and personal challenges. His work on the peer team strengthened his belief that peer connection, early intervention, and honest conversation are essential to protecting the mental health of those who serve.
Brittany began her journey in public safety at just 14 years old as a junior firefighter and became an EMT at 16. Growing up in the first responder community, she experienced firsthand the culture, expectations, and unspoken pressures that often come with the job. Through personal and professional experiences within emergency services, she recognized the urgent need for a platform where responders could speak openly about the realities of the work, without judgment and without stigma.
Together, Bart and Brittany created The Weight We Carry Podcast to provide an honest, unfiltered space for firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS providers, dispatchers, and military personnel to share their stories. The podcast explores trauma, resilience, identity, addiction, recovery, and healing highlighting both the struggles and the strength within the public safety community.
The mission of The Weight We Carry Podcast is to break the stigma surrounding mental health in first responders, foster connection, and provide education, resources, and hope for individuals and families navigating the invisible burdens of the job.
At its core, the podcast stands on a simple truth: no one should have to carry the weight alone.
